Who is using SMART Health Cards?

A small sampling of the ever-growing number of companies, organizations, and public entities that have adopted SMART Health Cards.


In October 2021, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the launch of a standardized SMARTH Health Card-compliant vaccination verification system that all provinces and territories will be adopting nationwide.


Introduction of Japan's digital vaccine certificate is planned by the end of 2021, with a 2D barcode issued in accordance with international standards, including SMART Health Cards, ICAO, and VDS-NC.


The State of California is offering residents a digital record of their COVID-19 vaccination status.


The State of Louisiana adopted SMART Health Cards in their LA Wallet app, which provides residents digital vaccination verification, sharing of personal health records, and functions as a legal driver’s license.

New York

New York State has developed interoperable solutions for use nationwide with their Excelsior Pass Plus and Excelsior Scanner app for businesses, both of which adhere to the SMART Health Cards Framework.


With iOS 15.1, iPhone users can securely store verifiable versions of their COVID-19 vaccination and test result records in the Health app and as vaccination cards in Apple Wallet. These records are based on the SMART Health Cards specification.
